TAKE ACTION
Here are some actions you can do anywhere, by yourself or with your family, to help the fight against climate change. It only takes one person to make a difference.
CHANGE YOUR DIET
You can do this by incorporating more plant-based foods into your diet while reducing your meat consumption. You can also reduce your dairy consumption or switch them with non-dairy alternatives. Not only is a high-fiber, plant-based diet healthier, but it lessens your environmental impact, as plant-based foods generally result in fewer greenhouse gas emissions and requires less resources.
RECONSIDER FLYING
Airplanes burn large amounts of fossil fuels, producing significant greenhouse gas emissions. If avoidable, chose options other than flying, such as meeting virtually, exploring electric travel, or taking a train. If unavoidable, explore carbon offsetting options, chose closer destinations, and fly economy.
REVISE DAILY TRAVEL OPTIONS
Many people use gas-powered cars, which not only release tons of greenhouse emissions but also release exhaust fumes that pose a health threat. If avoidable, consider walking, cycling, taking public transport, or car-sharing. Alternatively, efficiently using gas, having adequate oxygen sensors, or investing in a hybrid/all-electric car are all beneficial options if driving is unavoidable.
SAVE ENERGY
Turning down heating/AC devices, turning off lights and appliances when they're not being used, using LED or other low-energy bulbs, and buying water-efficient shower-head are all small steps you can take to reduce your footprint. If you want to go further, making sure your residence is energy efficient (properly insulated and draft-proof) and switching to renewable energy are excellent options.
MAXIMIZE CONSUMPTION AND MINIMIZE WASTE
Avoid single-use items and try not to buy more than you need. Shopping for quality items that last a long time and also buying from companies committed to reducing emissions and waste are all helpful steps to reduce your footprint. Additionally, when it comes to food and water waste, wasting it means you waste the resources you put into it, so finish your food, fully use what you buy, and compost any leftovers.
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
The three Rs are very effective in your individual fight against climate change. Electronics, clothes, and other items we buy cause carbon emissions, during production, usage, and discarding. To minimize your impact, buy fewer things, donate unwanted items toa new life to charity or sell them on, repair items you can what you can, and recycle these items properly.
